The Shipping Museum in the Castle Tower
The Shipping Museum is located directly on the Rhine promenade, in the castle tower, the only remaining part of the residential palace. From the lowest vault to the observation deck in the lantern, it presents history and stories about the Rhine, its shipping and the people on its banks on seven floors.

"Races on the Rhine" - Lecture with Dr. Markus TodoricYesterday, Wednesday, June 8, 2026, the first lecture in the new series "Stories above the Rhine" took place. High above the rooftops of the old town, with a view over the Rhine, interested guests listened to the lecture about "Races on the Rhine".

Trash in a museum?During a joint cleanup effort with Blockblocks Rheincleanup four weeks ago, a section of the Rhine riverbank was cleaned, and some curious pieces of trash were found. These objects are now on display in the historic vaulted cellar of the castle tower.

The long journey of a model collection to DüsseldorfIn 2023, the Maritime Museum was unexpectedly offered a collection of ship models from Switzerland. The models depict early passenger steamers from the Rhine, some of which are over 100 years old. You'll learn about the stations these ships first took to reach Switzerland and ultimately found their way to Düsseldorf on a short journey into the history of the collection, which dates back to the 19th century.

Historic cargo sailing ship "Helena"Until now, many excellent models of Rhine ships could be viewed in the Maritime Museum, but now a real ship can be admired.
